sBOOKtacular day 15 with some creepiness!

I found OBT like this today. I think my little hooligans (aka my children) are getting into this whole 'dress up the book' gig. Either that, or OBT picked her own costume ...

Weather here this morning is dreary, creepy, Halloweeny, and so let's focus on some creepiness. A.G. Howard is ever-so-graciously donating two books to the giveaway! Be on the lookout for the highly anticipated ending to the SPLINTERED trilogy (ENSNARED releases in January!!).

A.G. Howard (click to visit her website) has a flair for the eerie, and so she is contributing:

A feast for the brain, this gory and genuinely hilarious take on zombie culture simultaneously skewers, pays tribute to, and elevates the horror genre.

Seventeen-year-old Nero is stuck in the wilderness with a bunch of other juvenile delinquents on an “Inward Trek.” As if that weren’t bad enough, his counselors have turned into flesh-eating maniacs overnight and are now chowing down on his fellow miscreants. As in any classic monster flick worth its salted popcorn, plentiful carnage sends survivors rabbiting into the woods while the mindless horde of “infects” shambles, moans, and drools behind. Of course, these kids have seen zombie movies. They generate “Zombie Rules” almost as quickly as cheeky remarks, but attitude alone can’t keep the biters back.

Serving up a cast of irreverent, slightly twisted characters, an unexpected villain, and an ending you won’t see coming, here is a savvy tale that that’s a delight to read—whether you’re a rabid zombie fan or freshly bitten—and an incisive commentary on the evil that lurks within each of us

AND

When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy finds out her mother might've been telling the truth. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - and it's one she's not sure if she wants to be a part of.

sBOOKtacular Day 14 with Jen McConnel and Daughter of Chaos!

If you couldn't guess, it a witchy kind of day here, and even OBT is in the spirit:

So it's only fitting that I highlight Jen McConnel and her wonderfully #witcherific ways (she even has a street team- click for info!!). And during this month's sBOOKtacular, you could win a signed copy of DAUGHTER OF CHAOS!!!

Witches must choose the path they will follow, and Darlena Agara is no exception. She’s been putting it off long enough, and in her case, ignoring it has not made it go away. In a moment of frustration, Darlena chooses to follow Red Magic, figuring she had outsmarted the powers that be, since there’s no such thing as Red Magic. But alas, Darlena’s wrong (again) and she becomes a newly declared Red Witch.

Her friends are shocked and her parents horrified by the choice Darlena has made. As a Red Witch, she now governs one third of the world’s chaos. She is the walking personification of pandemonium, turmoil, and bedlam, just as the patrons of Red Magic would have it to be.

But Darlena believes there must be more to Red Magic than chaos and destruction, and she sets out on a journey to achieve balance. Only doing so puts her at odds with the dark goddess Hecate, who simply will not allow Darlena to quit. She encourages Darlena to embrace who and what she is and to leave good magic to the good witches. If only Darlena could, life would be simple, and she would not be the Daughter of Chaos.

DAUGHTER OF CHAOS is the first in a YA paranormal trilogy

sBOOKtacular day 13 with Lisa Ann O'Kane and Essence!

In light of a rejuvenating Ravens win...

October continues with a book you're going to want to win! Spotlight today is on Lisa Ann O'Kane and her debut, ESSENCE.

A little background:

Autumn escaped a cult, but now she realizes she's fallen into another.

Growing up in San Francisco’s Centrist Movement, sixteen year-old Autumn Grace has always believed emotions—adrenaline, endorphins, even happiness—drain your Essence and lead to an early death. But her younger brother’s passing and a run-in with a group of Outsiders casts her faith into question.

Ryder Stone, the sexy, rebellious leader of the Outsiders, claims Essence drain is nothing more than a Centrist scare tactic -- and he can prove it.

Autumn follows Ryder to his Community of adrenaline junkies and free spirits in Yosemite National Park, and they introduce her to a life of adventure, romance, sex, drugs and freedom. But as she discovers dark secrets beneath the Community’s perfect exterior, she realizes the more she risks in search of the perfect rush, the further she has to fall.

This one is refreshing. My GR review here.

sBOOKtacular day 9 with Kristi Helvig and BURN OUT

Costume of the day for OF BREAKABLE THINGS is...

(p.s. I swear my cover rolled her eyes at me this morning when I dressed her. She's getting annoyed with these shenanigans of mine...)

A Jedi!!!
What's cooler than a Jedi???

My spotlight of the day falls on Kristi Helvig and her heart-pounding debut, BURN OUT.

I'm obsessed with this one. I read it in a day and couldn't put it down. (And I think I chugged 10 bottles of water while reading... if you've read it, you understand!!)

Here's some info:

Most people want to save the world; seventeen-year-old Tora Reynolds just wants to get the hell off of it. One of the last survivors in Earth's final years, Tora yearns to escape the wasteland her planet has become after the sun turns "red giant," but discovers her fellow survivors are even deadlier than the hostile environment.

Holed up in an underground shelter, Tora is alone--her brilliant scientist father murdered, her mother and sister burned to death. She dreams of living on a planet with oceans, plants, and animals. Unfortunately, the oceans dried out ages ago, the only plants are giant cacti with deadly spines, and her pet, Trigger, is a gun--one of the bio-energetic weapons her father created for the government before his conscience kicked in.

When family friend, Markus, arrives with mercenaries to take the weapons by force, Tora's fury turns to fear when government ships descend in an attempt to kill them all. She forges an unlikely alliance with Markus and his rag-tag group of raiders, including a smart but quiet soldier named James. Tora must quickly figure out who she can trust, as she must choose between saving herself by giving up the guns or honoring her father's request to save humanity from the most lethal weapons in existence.

It's crazy good. Here are my thoughts on Goodreads: My BURN OUT Review

You could win a SIGNED COPY of BURN OUT by entering below!!!!

And if you want to stalk Kristi Helvig, here ya go! Stalk.

OBT's costume of the day is...

...

A Ninja!! A kickass ninja.

And speaking of kickass, today's feature involves a heroine who just happens to be the best fighter in her prince's guard. As a part of the October sBOOKtacular you could win a signed paperback of:

I'm sure you've probably already heard of this one, but just in case, here's a little blurb:

A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?

Love this book by fellow YA Valentine, Sara B. Larson! (and love her, too!) My GR review here.

When she realizes this camp is actually for teens with special needs, Cricket doubts she has what it takes to endure twenty-four hours, let alone two weeks.
Thanks to her dangerously cute co-counselor, Quinn, there may be a slim chance for survival. However, between the campers’ unpredictability and disregard for personal space, Cricket’s limits get pushed. She will have to decide if suffering through her own handicapped hell is worth a summer romance—and losing her sanity.
